Mixed martial arts (MMA) heavyweight challenger Cain Velasquez overpowered bigger champion Brock Lesnar in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 121 on Saturday night (Sunday in Manila).

The 28-year-old Mexican-American fighter pummelled the former World Wrestling Entertainment star Lesnar in the first round en route to a technical knockout (TKO) win to secure the belt.

“I expected nothing less. He’s a great fighter. What can I say? He was better than me tonight,” Lesnar was quoted in UFC.com.

Lesnar weighs a solid 240 pounds and has been in 8 fights. He last earned a knockout victory against former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion, Antônio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira, in February this year.

Velasquez is the first fighter of Mexican descent to win a major heavyweight title in combat sports, according to UFC.com.

Velasquez hold a record of 9 wins and zero loss while Lesnar absorbed his 2nd loss against 5 wins.
